GMC decided to dedicate most of its efforts to manufacturing full-size and mid-size SUVs. The company sees a great potential in this market since SUVs are becoming more and more popular these years, especially in the US market. The 2017 GMC Yukon XL is one of the models that will again attract a decent number of buyers that need this type of vehicle.

Mid-size SUVs are naturally more popular than full-size cars since they have better fuel economy and price is much lower while they can offer similar features. However, they can’t have same performances and capabilities. Full-size SUVs are much stronger and more powerful. Today we decided to present one of them coming from the GMC’s production line – the 2017 GMC Yukon XL.

2017 GMC Yukon XL Denali

There are several trim levels of Yukon (such as Denali, one of the most popular options), but we won’t write about all of them, and we will put all our eyes on the XL. Thanks to mighty grille the GMC Yukon XL 2017 looks aggressive and masculine. It is really huge thanks to extended rear part so it can offer a plenty of space for cargo even it brings three seating rows. It is ideal for long travels or even when you want to transport some goods from one place to another. Of course, every car comes with some pros and cons. Thus, we tried to gather all of the ins and outs of this SUV and put it in a single review.

It seems that all Yukon models announced for 2017 will have two engines in lineup plus one that is still in the rumor mill. It is most likely that the base engine of the 2017 GMC Yukon XL will be the 5.3l eight-cylinder. This unit is capable of producing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. Compared to the optional powerplant this one has better fuel efficiency, but it is less powerful. If you can’t decide which is more important to you, power or fuel economy, we can assure you that the base engine is a wiser choice. It is powerful enough, and it won’t let you down on the road.

The second choice is also eight-cylinder, but it comes with the 6.2-liter displacement. It behaves slightly differently than the base engine because of power and torque increase. This unit offers 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. In our opinion, this is not a huge difference, and we definitely recommend the first option. Automatic gearbox with eight gears is expected as standard, but there are some indications that GMC is creating new transmission system for this full-size SUV. This is just an assumption. Thus, we need to wait for the company’s comment on it.

One of the things that could allow 2017 GMC Yukon XL to become one of the most interesting options in a segment of large SUV’s is the diesel engine. At this point, this has been rumored, and there are no official details about it. We know that GMC has their Duramax lineup of turbocharged diesels, but this 6.6-liter unit could be too big for Yukon XL since it is heavy and bulky. We could see it in heavy duty pickups where it is capable of delivering about 400 hp and insane 765 lb-ft of torque. The second option could be the 4.5-liter turbocharged diesel that is still in development and what we could hear is that it is currently on hold, but the original plan was to offer it in light-duty trucks and vehicles. With about 300 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque, we think that it could be quite a good choice for large SUV like this one.

Mighty – if I had to use one word to describe the 2017 GMC Yukon XL it would be this one. It doesn’t look too aggressive but is still strong and masculine. If you need a family car for showing off that, this one will be a perfect choice. It looks luxurious and comes in various colors, but if you ask us black and red suit it best. It is easy to spot some adjustments, but if you put 2017 model and the previous model side by side, you will notice that improvements are not huge.

All full-size SUVs can accommodate more than five people and so does Yukon XL. There are three rows of seats, but the rear row can be folded to provide more space for cargo. All technology that previous model had is there. Seats are great and convenient thus; we don’t expect any complaints about them. All in all one 2017 GMC Yukon XL is one comfortable, luxurious and well-designed car.

Decently equipped even in base version but if you have a deeper pocket we certainly recommend you to check out the Denali trim. Fine leather, customizable display, improved audio system high-quality materials and similar is what you get.

Believe it or not, this full-size SUV is going to cost less than before. It is estimated that new 2017 GMC Yukon XL is going to be sold for less than $51,000 while the previous version was priced at about $51,000. Full price list is available in the table below. We just need to be patient and see whether this will be the actual price. According to some sources, this car should not hit the market until September 2016.
